The .276 Pedersen underwent an extensive development cycle, starting with an extremely well-tapered cartridge, and ending with the variations that you can find every now and then at online auctions.
For a time, it seemed adoption of the cartridge was assured. However, General McArthur, just before the adoption of the .276 caliber Garand rifle, put his foot down and mandated that any new rifle must be in the old .30 caliber.
What if that hadn't happened? Perhaps the rifle and cartridge would have undergone extensive refinement as a unit, and perhaps, as had happened before, the .276's still very aggressive case taper would once again be eased, and case length shortened.
This is a little peek at what that cartridge might look like.
